Assignment-2 TP1 - 2016
Assignment 2: Written group assignment and demonstration
Report submission Due: Week 11.
Demonstration: Week 11, during lab time.
Total Marks = 25 (25% of total assessment)
Purpose of the assessment:
The purpose of this assignment is to develop skills required to configuring routers and switches in VLAN networks. In this assessment, students will be able to
• Design a simple network with routers and switches;
• IP subnet calculation;
• Configuring routers and switches using Netsim or lab environment;
• Troubleshoot for multiple VLAN configurations;
• Test network connectivity for the output in PT or lab environment;
• Demonstrate the final outcome.
Description of the assessment:
Introduction
This is a group assignment. Using Netsim, you will need to write a report on the following network.
Also you will need to run a group demonstration on both Netsim & real routers and switches to your tutor on the specified time mentioned to your group in the following table.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Don't prepare your assignment during the lab time. The lab time is assigned for the lab exercises.
- As a network administrator, you will need to design and configure the following network:
The network consists of the following:
- 3 Routers.
- 4 Switches.
- 35 PCs are connected to Sales Dept. Switch.
- 80 PCs are connected to Technology Dept. Switch.
- 15 PCs and a Server are connected to Accounting Dept. Switch.
Please note that:
- You must use Class-B IP address.
- AD-LANS1 Switch is connected to the three Routers through Trunk Links.
- Each of the Sales, Technology and Accounting Switches has employees from the three different departments.
- A serial connection is required between the TD-LANR1 and Edge-Router; where the DCE interface is on the Edge-Router side.
- A separate VLAN must be configured for each Dept.
- Switches ports must shutdown in case of more than one computer are connected to any of them at the same time.
- To demonstrate your understanding of the LAN concepts and troubleshooting, use Netsim or real routers & switches to setup and configure the above network.
Important hint:
In Netsim, you may use 3 PCs to be connected to each switch, one PC from each Dept. to represent all types.
2. Requirements:
In your configuration you will need to demonstrate the followings:
1- All routers must be configured by an appropriate Routing Protocol.
2- Any VLAN's member must be able to communicate with all other VLAN members in the other networks.
3- Sales and Technology Dept. members are able to communicate with each other through Inter-VLAN communication.
4- Secure your routers and switches using console, aux, vty and secret passwords.
5- Add an interface description to each of the routers/switches interfaces to describe each of them.
6- Troubleshoot your network functionality using appropriate troubleshooting commands for your Routing Protocol.
7- Your company decided to add a new Dept., and your manager asked you to add an extra Router and to connect it to AD-LANS1 Switch. Analyse and suggest an optimum network solution in that case.
8- Prepare two complete designs for your network; Classful and Classless.
9- Compare between the two solutions. Which one are you going to recommend to your manager? Explain why.
Submission Guideline:
Your assignment should be completed according to the General Guidelines for Presentation of Academic Work.
1. Write a report on the following, include
a. detail of the configuration and troubleshooting steps
b. brief description and purpose of the various commands used.
