Consider that you have recently been appointed as an Assistant Decision Support Manager. You have been given 4 assignment tasks to be carried out and presented to the Decision Support Manager. You are required to fulfil the following four tasks in report format. Each answer must address the task, and provide an analysis supported by appropriate statistical and financial methods. To carry out the tasks below, your UK organisation, a fresh juice manufacturer and retailer in London, wants you to analyse the emerging trends in this market to determine whether it is viable to introduce a new juice product. To support your decision-making you will need to carry out both primary and secondary data research and analysis. You are required to demonstrate that you have a good knowledge and understanding of appropriate statistical and data processing skills that are needed to make informed decisions required in an organisation. The Unit is also aimed at helping the learners' ability to use spreadsheets for data presentation and analysis. What you must do Task 1 1.1 Plan and carry out primary research to determine the consumer profile, preference, attitude and buying behaviour related to a fresh juice drink product. [P1.1] 1.2 and 1.3 Develop a survey plan outlining the sampling method and sample size and design a questionnaire to be used for task 1.1. [P1.2, P1.3] 1.4 Plan and carry out secondary research to determine the size of the fresh juice drinks market, the market structure and market share of competitors. [P1.1] To achieve M1, you will need to demonstrate an effective approach to research using appropriate sources and to critically analyse a range of data collection / sampling methods used in primary research. 3 Task 2 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 Summarise the data collected from your primary and secondary research using frequency tables, representative values (averages) and measures of dispersion and interpret the results as relevant management information for the fresh juice drinks market. [P2.1, 2.2, 2.3] 2.4 Explain, with examples, how quartiles, percentiles and correlation can be used to aid decision making in the fresh juice drinks market. [P2.4] To achieve M2, you will need to support your report using a range of relevant information sources and demonstrate the ability to identify and apply techniques such as dispersion and correlation in the context of the fresh juice drinks market. To achieve D1, you will need to present conclusions based on the critical evaluation of two analytical techniques (dispersion and correlation) in the context of the fresh juice drinks market. Task 3 3.1 Create charts (pie, bar, line, ogive, histogram) using a spreadsheet to support your analysis of the fresh juice drinks market (in tasks 2.1, 2.2, 2.3) and draw valid conclusions on the information produced. [P3.1] 3.2 Create a trend line on an xy-plot using a spreadsheet and use it to forecast information useful to your analysis of the fresh juice drinks market. [P3.2] 3.3 Prepare a 10 minute powerpoint presentation based on your analysis of the fresh juice drinks market in the UK. [P3.3] 3.4 Produce a formal business report for the fresh juice drinks market using the information derived from the above analysis in order to present to the Decision Support Manager. [P3.4] To achieve M3, you will have to make the 10 minute powerpoint presentation which was prepared in task 3.3. Task 4 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 Prepare a project plan for the launch of a new fresh juice drink based on the above information and present to the Decision Support Manager. The plan should include an analysis based on the projected revenues and costs regarding the financial viability of the project. [P4.1, 4.2, 4.2] To achieve D2, you will need to take responsibility by managing activities on time – such as class attendance, research information properly referenced and all work submission dates have been met. To achieve D3, you will need to demonstrate that alternative evaluation has taken place when selecting and recommending financial tools for decision making
