Assignment Title – Website Design Concepts Assessor – Ken Wake Date issued – 5th November 2015 Interim deadline – Continuous Formative Feedback Final deadline 19th November 2015 Duration – This assignment will cover a two week period during which you will create comprehensive website plans. Purpose / Scenario Overview and aims : This assignment is designed for you to be able to demonstrate your ability to examine the requirements of a website client and interpret those requirements into a website project plan. The assignment will focus on the processes used to ensure that the site we build is the site the client actually wants. This naturally includes the production of documentation and background research into the subject area of the site. Vocational scenario As a recently employed member of the ChipSet© web development team, you have been asked to familiarise yourself with the project management aspects of dealing with professional web projects. In this stage you have been asked to help with the documentation for a proposed site. This will involve carrying out substantial research to ascertain what needs to be built by examining competitors or current industry norms and then planning your own build. You will also need to examine the graphic elements as well as making sure that your proposed coding standards and build specs are up to date. Assessment and grading criteria The assignment covers the following grading criteria from learning outcome 2 : Be able to design interactive websites. 2.1– Design an interactive website to meet given requirements 2.2 –Evaluate website design with other users. Task 1 – Grading criteria 2.2 Carry out research with at least two other students and produce a research document which analyses a minimum of 3 websites in the same subject and purpose as the site you will be designing. Your analysis needs to focus on the following five areas. 1/ General fitness for purpose / Accessibility / Browser Compatible 2/ Quality of visual design/ use of colour / images 3/ Ease of use/navigation 4/ Good design principles/ Coding standards 5/ Platform – Fixed or liquid layout / Pure HTML or dynamic content 6/ What does the site do? What are its aims/objectives? Who are the target audience? This will be a simple word-processed document with suitable headings and sub-headings. Task 2 – Grading criteria 2.1 Based on the requirements you have been given by your client and the research you have carried out above, produce suitable website specification documentation illustrating how the site will be designed. Your documentation must include the following. 1/ A clear statement of the subject matter and purpose of the site, this should include a rationale for identifying the intended target audience. 2/ Wireframe diagrams for all page templates which need to specify whether the page is fixed or liquid and specify the dimensions of all main areas.
