The aim of this assessment is to provide students an opportunity to apply existing knowledge on best practice in destination management and marketing to analyse the strategies and/or policies of a given tourism destination (it can be the same destination on which students conducted their audit). Students will - A. Write a review of the academic literature relating to either destination management, destination marketing or policy and planning. This review should include at least 12 references from the academic literature (this may include books and referred journal articles) - B. Select a specific tourism destination (ie. region, state, country) with an identifiable DMO - C. Obtain printed documentation of the relevant strategies of this DMO with reference to visioning, marketing, branding, planning and product development. D. Review and critically assess the strategy document according to key principles identified in the literature reviewed in section A. Encourage use of heritage buildings as hotels for providing accommodation facilities to tourists.
