Case study: The Unit 47 assignment brief consists of two tasks, each designed to test the learners' knowledge and skills of the employment market within the commercial sector. SCENARIO: Premier Products is the parent company of Timbacourt, a clothing retailer of high-end fashion clothes for men and women. They have secured a prime site within the Westfield Shopping Centre in West London, which they intend to develop as their flagship store in the UK. During the past twelve months they have also established a successful on-line business. Task 1: LO1, LO2, LO3 plus M1, M2, D2 and D3 In the role of an HR manager in a retail operation, write a briefing document for your team to help them in the recruitment, selection and training of the new staff you need to employ for the opening of a new flagship store. This will require you to write job descriptions and person specifications for two roles, one at management level and one at staff level. You will also be required to design a training programme for junior managers which will help them to understand your organisational needs and help them to develop the skills they will need to be successful. Your report must be prepared, as a written report, for the senior management board. Task 2: LO4 plus M3, D1 and D3 With regard to Timbacourt's on-line business, identify tools and methods which can be used by them in the selection process for new members of staff. Evaluate the tools and methods selected, in terms of their effectiveness in meeting Timbacourt's requirements for new staff. You must also develop a recruitment strategy which will help Timbacourt to meet their future recruitment needs for staff in their on-line business. Finally, you should offer an assessment of the impact of Timbacourt's developing on-line business in relation to their high street retail business. The combined word count for both tasks of the Unit 47 assignment is 3,000 words (± 10%).
