Each syndicate group is required to prepare a paper on a current project management issue and then present to the class. The syndicate group (5 students in a group) should be prepared to present for 15 minutes, and then to answer questions from the class for an additional 5 minutes. Syndicates will also submit a written report of 1500-2000 words to support the position presented. It is suggested that groups focus on their paper and then shape the presentation to communicate the content of the paper. Often groups see the paper as an addition to the presentation and lose sight of the fact that the paper and the research and thinking behind it are in fact the foundation of the presentation. Assessment of the presentation will be based on: Content of the presentation Syndicates should demonstrate that they have thoroughly researched their topic using references, journals and field research. Syndicates who do not have access to suitable field research opportunities should discuss this with the convener once the topic has been allocated. The presentation should demonstrate the following (relative weightings for both the paper and presentation are in brackets): • Understanding of the relevant project management concepts and principles (15%) • Application of the concepts and principles to the topic/issue (25%) • Clarity and quality of argument and expression (25%) • Quality of investigation (15%) • Well-supported conclusions (20%) Presentation style The presentation should be to professional standards suitable for senior managers or an industry interest group. All members of the syndicate must present. Weighting: The paper is worth 40% of the marks and the presentation is worth 60% of the marks. Marks will be deducted (at a rate of 5 per minute) for presentations that exceed the 15 minute limit
