If you are working in an industry, or have easy access to an industry, which carries out product development, study the product development process and describe it. It is likely that you will have to define a typical customer, particularly in terms of demand type, frequency and required delivery time. You may also have to identify the rate of new product development, i.e. how many new product introductions per year. You will probably produce a flow chart of the product development process, from inception through to satisfactory acceptance by the customer, including typical times for each operation. The detail required is whatever you feel appropriate for illustrating key problems in the product development process (there will inevitably be some of these). Finally, describe the nature of the problem areas and suggest what actions might be taken to improve them. Task Notes: 1. You have been invited to select one task from the above three. 2. For your selection you are required to produce a NPD case study report considering the following general guidance: a. An introduction to your area. b. Review, analysis and selection of an appropriate NPD methodology. c. A Gantt chart detailing your plans and approach. d. A literature review of the area chosen. e. Analysis and summary of your reviewed literature. f. Summary and conclusions. 3. Take note of the research paper style and structure. 4.
