Assignment title: Information

Integrated Engineering Design ele09114 Initial Design Report Assessment Details: Your coursework will consist of the design of a product which contains a timing device. The product and its area of application is to be of your choice but the design style to reflect this choice. You will be asked in Assessment B to produce a printed circuit representation of the circuit and to design packaging for mounting the PCB and provide a suitable interface to the user. There are some of the specifications which are already fixed. o The system will have some form of visual display o There will be spare digital and analogue inputs available on the microcontroller o A general circuit schematic given, will act as the basis for the electronic part of the design as it can be assumed to be all purpose. (Attached) o Assume that software can be used to program the microcontroller to meet your requirements. (You do not need to consider this, as it can be assumed that it will do what you require.) You should prepare a design specification with engineering requirements based on your concept. You may include other information as you feel necessary. The Module Leader can act as consultant to proposed designs. The choice of functionality and components packaging will be your own. Assessment Criteria: The assessment will cover the report and the following should be included: • background to the product that you are planning to design with some justification for the design • a set of requirement needs for the product • an engineering specification for the product It should all be written with enough information for the next stage of the process, design implementation, to begin. The requirement needs and engineering specification should follow the structure discussed in the lectures. Assessment Type: Coursework Final Module Mark Weighting: 10% Assessment Limits: 1000 words Submission Date: 26/02/2014 Submission Day: Wednesday, Undergraduate Yr 3 Submission Method: Via Assessment Dropbox, C83d TurnItIn: Unlimited Attempts Tutor with Direct Responsibility: Alan Edgar Standard Instructions to Students: 1. A hard copy of your workmust be submitted with the appropriatecover sheet which must confirm that the assignment work is your own via the School Office 2. You must also submit via TurnItIn using the Moodle site. You will have three opportunities to submit with the third one being final. 3. You are advised to keep a copy of your assessment solutions. 4. Late submissions will be penalised following the University guidelines as follows: • Up to 5 working days late the mark will be capped at 40% or P1. • After 5 working days a mark of 0% or F5 will be awarded. 5. Extensions to the submission date may only be given by the Module Leader for exceptional circumstances. 6. The University rules on Plagiarism will apply to all submissions. 7. Work will normally be returned with feedback within THREE WEEKS from the date of submission. Special Instructions: General circuit diagram attached. Everything else should be your own choice. Integrated Engineering Design ele09114 Control Device Basic Elements (add display elements as per datasheets) The block diagram is to act as a basis for your application. You will need to research the oscillator part of the circuit. You will need to consider the power supply you wish to use. The minimum needed will be a voltage regulator. You can add a mains transformer and rectification. You should include these elements in your final design. You have as many inputs and outputs as are available with the 16F887. You should choose your preferred digital display and design the circuit accordingly. Note: The detailed design IS NOT REQUIRED AT THIS STAGE.
